A.W.Stokes are a family run company who have been manufacturers of packaging products for British industry for more than 100 years. Initially the family were concerned with the manufacture of wooden barrels but in 1965 the present company was established as re-conditioners of steel drums. Customer’s enquiries quickly established that there was a niche market within the industry for a flexible manufacturer of new drums, able to react quickly to the needs of customers without the bureaucracy and time constraints often associated with the larger producers. A.W.Stokes therefore purchased the latest ‘state of the art’ drum making equipment capable of meeting the most exacting standards for 210 litre UN Certified steel drums and closed its re-conditioning plant.

Since this time the company has built up an enviable reputation for the rapid supply of high quality new drums to companies, many of whom are specialists within their industry sector. In several cases we are now sole suppliers of steel drums to class leading companies. The success of the company can be measured by our purchase of both properties adjoining the original premises to accommodate the increase in production. Installation of the latest drum making equipment, including a completely new paint plant utilising the latest water based technology, has enabled us to enhance our already high standards and further improve our environmental obligations, making this one of the most modern facilities within the industry.

We offer our customers a range of 210 litre open top or tight head drums certified by the Packaging Industry Research Association to meet various UN requirements. In addition we can also manufacture a range of specialist drums to meet customer’s specific needs. Drums can be supplied, in either plain steel or coated internally with lining lacquer, in a variety of external paint colours to suit customer’s individual requirements. Where required, we can also supply drums pack banded on pallets ready for immediate filling.

Naturally the company is registered with BSI QA to the ISO 9001:2000 International Quality Standard. (We have incidentally been continuously registered to BS 5750/ISO 9002 since 1991).

Although the company has grown considerably in recent years we are still proud to be family owned and continue to offer customers the personal service which has always been a hallmark of the company.
